You CAN have Success

Four Ways to Create Success In Business and Life

As we walk into Q2 next week, let me ask you something…

How are your goals shaping up in your business or in your life for this year so far? Feeling good? Feeling not so good?

Is your vision for this year crystal clear or are you still trying to figure it all out?

Is your business or life on the right track or do you just have no idea what track to jump onto?

Are you feeling like you have no idea how to answer any of these questions?

Trust me, I get it.

I totally get the process.  The new year and the first quarter brings time for reflection in all aspects of your life and offers an opportunity to start anew, start fresh, revamp, reassess, whatever you choose it to be. But if you don’t have it all figured out by say Jan. 2, then what will happen?

Nothing. Nothing will happen, which is both great and not so great.

Nothing will happen in the sense that the process will still be there whenever you decide to return to it. Nothing will also happen in the sense that your career, your business, your life will not advance the way you hope it will UNTIL you decide to return to it.

So what do you do? What CAN you do?

Turns out you CAN do a few things to keep the momentum going, even when you are completely lost, overwhelmed and directionless.

Let me explain.

A few years ago around this time I became very sick. It was a chest cold that turned into the flu that turned into pneumonia for 2 solid months. It was NOT a good time for me. I had two businesses to run, a family to raise, etc.  What the heck was my body thinking? I would wake up from resting nearly every time with this clear thought it my mind…I CAN do this.  I CAN manage these businesses and my family from the couch. I CAN maintain my presence in my customer’s lives and my family’s lives. I CAN stay motivated. I wrote it down so many times that I knew it was eventually going to have significance. Actually the phrase, “I CAN” has always had a special meaning for me. Whenever I have struggled and I mean really struggled, I have convinced myself of my inherent strength by repeating over and over again, “I can do this” or I can do that.” It has worked every time. So when I found myself struggling again through weeks of illness, I turned to what I knew. This time, it seemed to take on a deeper meaning.

At the same time as my health crisis was settling in, I was also researching what the key business killers were for new and existing businesses. (Perfect timing right?) I was evolving my business and wanted more information. I wanted to be on top of my game even if I felt like I was dying. I discovered that in the top reasons for businesses failing within the first 18 months to 3 years were these common causes:

  • Owner burnout
  • Lack of unique connection to your customers and clients
  • Lack of automation
  • No action or business plan

So that got me thinking about solutions and how I could counteract these problems even from the couch. Then it dawned on me that there was a reason why I was CONSTANTLY writing down I CAN…I CAN. It turns out that I was uncovering the solutions to these problems. It all became crystal clear. Check this out!

I = Initiate Self Care → Takes care of owner burnout

C = Create Unique Connections → Takes care of Lack of unique connection to your customers and clients

A = Automate your processes → Takes care of Lack of automation

N = Navigate to Success → Takes care of No action or business plan

I was blown away to be honest. It was so clear, and easy and manageable. Why hadn’t I thought of this before?

So here are my thoughts. If you find yourself too sick to work, overwhelmed by life or just plain lost you are now able to say to yourself…

I CAN do this!  I CAN stay focused! I CAN accomplish something today that will move me further ahead than where I was yesterday.

This I CAN principle is a motivational management tool where you can coach yourself (and what better cheerleader than yourself, right?) and manage your business or your life, just by saying and believing

I CAN take care of myself today. It’s okay to refill the well so that I can do more, be more, give more.

I CAN connect with my customers today.

I CAN automate parts of my life or business to make things easier for me next time.

I CAN navigate to success by moving in the direction of my vision; choosing activities that get me closer to what I want for myself, my business and my life.

If you only do these four things in any given day…it will be a successful day.  It will be a great day!

The take away that I am offering you is that ultimately no matter what mood you’re in or how overwhelming large your to do list is, you CAN do this.  You CAN be successful.  You CAN create movement in your life that will lead you to your vision and success.

In the coming weeks I will dive deeper into the strategies behind each points of this principle. I will offer concrete examples that you’ll be able to use immediately and implement into your business practices that will make a difference right away. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas with you and hearing what works for you.
