I am the GREATEST (and so are you!)

Muhammed AliI woke up to the sad news that Muhammad Ali had passed away yesterday.  Seems highly unlikely, I thought, that a person as great as Ali could be, well….mortal.

He was and will always be the best boxer ever.

He said it all of the time, “I am the GREATEST!”

His superior boxing skills set him apart but what widened the gap between him and his opponents was his drive to be different. He was often called loud and “over-confident”. [I love this about him and feel as if we should all be a little more “loud” and “over-confident”.] His quotes and sayings captured attention from the public and the media.

He knew his why.

He knew his purpose.

He was prepared to be all in all of the time. He had a strategy that would have the world watching him and say, “This guy is different, let’s pay attention.”

Muhammad Ali wasn’t the greatest boxer of all time just because of his amazing footing and his ripping punches or even because he told us he was. He was “The Greatest” also because of his hard work behind the scenes.

“The fight is won or lost far away from the witnesses, behind the lines, in the gym and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.”  – Muhammad Ali

His dance in the ring was just the culmination of hours and hours of dedicated training and learning.

We can all take a lesson from Ali.

Do you have a strategy?

Do you know your why?

Do you know why “You’re the Greatest (in your field)?”

Do you work hard behind the scenes to set yourself up for success even when that work may go unnoticed?

If you answered yes to all of them…..keep up the good work. If you answered no to any of them….it’s time to get working! (I can help with this!)

Not feeling like you could ever live up to Ali standards?

We all have that same potential that Ali was able to obtain.

We all have the same opportunity to be “The Greatest”.

The question remains….Are you ready to work for it?

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.

– Muhammad Ali

While we lost a legend yesterday, we did not lose any of his lessons.  His example and wisdom is legendary and will continue to teach for generations to come. With hard work, dedication and clear vision so will yours.
